Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell from Phish perform “Theme From The Bottom” at Burlington Guitar Company

Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio and keyboardist Page McConnell teamed up as a duet on “Theme From The Bottom” last Friday at the Burlington Circle Strings Musical Instrument Store. The couple stopped by the store to thank the Circle Strings team for making an acoustic guitar that Page gave Trey as a birthday present

Circle Strings founder and luthier Adam Buchwald documented Anastasio and McConnell’s visit to his shop in a series of Instagram posts. Buchwald revealed that Page contacted him to craft an ax for his longtime companion. Trey was so happy with the instrument that he wanted to swing at Circle Strings before leaving town to show his appreciation for their hard work on the guitar.

“Aside from my wedding day and the birth of my children, Friday was one of the best days of my life. Buchwald shared. “We had the pleasure of having Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell of Phish stop by the store. Over the past few months, we’ve secretly made a Trey de Page guitar for a birthday present. I went into the private stock and picked the finest German koa and spruce up we had. Page gave him the guitar on Friday and Trey liked it so much that he came to the store to meet us and play it for us before he left town.

Adam then revealed that he had been a fan of Anastasio for a long time and asked Trey to recreate a photo the two took together when the luthier was 17. of a crew, ”added Buchwald. “We all had a part in this guitar and it feels good to share it with all of you. I am so lucky to work with such talented and motivated luthiers.

Trey sat down at the store and played the Billy breathes classic “Theme From The Bottom” as Page sang harmony. Watch the duo below:
