MPs were asked to carry out a welfare check at a house along the 1900 block of Roseland Road just before 6 p.m.
Sheriff Ronnie Fields told breaking news crews at the scene that one person was found on the porch and another inside.
The victims were identified as DP Black, 91, and Mary Lou Black, 86.
Longtime family friend Karl Mitschke still deals with their loss, he says DP was a successful businessman and landowner in the area. The couple were known for their generosity and dedication to their church.
“DP was just a good man. Sweet Mary Lou, a wonderful woman. They loved their grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a family man,” Mitschke added. He had known the couple for almost three decades.
“I sought his advice as I would from my own father when he was alive,” Mitschke said.
“Everyone knew about DP,” said Michelle Tew, owner of Sizzlin Steak or Eggs, a restaurant he frequented. She has known DP her whole life and last saw him earlier this week
“Really nice guy. I never had anything bad to say about anyone. He was a joker,” Tew said.
The Moore County Sheriff’s Office is offering a reward of $ 2,000 for information leading to an arrest.
“This is a cowardly act and the people or the person responsible for this crime must be brought to justice,” Sheriff Fields said.
Anyone with more information on the double homicide is urged to contact the Moore County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 947-2931.
