Floyd Country Store Launches October Music Lineup

The Floyd Country Store has released its October schedule:

Saturday, October 1, 7 p.m. – Western Centuries Live

Live at the Floyd Country Store – Tickets are $18.50

Western Centuries is a roots band based in Seattle.

Tuesday, October 4, 5 p.m. – Bluegrass and dinner with Jesse Smathers & Friends

Live at the Floyd Country Store – Free admission (suggested donation $10)

Jesse Smathers is a member of the Lonesome River Band. Admission is free with tips appreciated.

Saturday, October 8, 7:30 p.m. – Darrell Scott Live

Live at the Floyd Country Store – Tickets are $38

Darrell Scott toured with Robert Plant and the Zac Brown Band (two years with each) and produced albums for Malcolm Holcomb and Guy Clark.

Sunday, October 9, 7 p.m. – Missy Raines & Allegheny Live

Live at the Floyd Country Store – Tickets are $17.50

Missy Raines is a Grammy-nominated bluegrass bassist – she was the first woman to be named bassist of the year by the International Bluegrass Music Association. His group Allegheny is a bluegrass ensemble consisting of banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar and bass.

Tuesday, October 11, 7 p.m. – Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn Live (sold out)

Live at the Floyd Country Store – Tickets are $49 (sold out)

Béla Fleck is the winner of 15 Grammy Awards.

Saturday, October 15, 7 p.m. – Old Time Dance with The New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters

Live at the Floyd Country Store – Tickets are $10 (tickets for Friends & Fixtures cardholders are $5-$8, available at the door)

The New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters perform in traditional Appalachian style with Eddie Bond on fiddle, Dennis Hall on guitar, Josh Ellis on banjo clawhammer, Bonnie Bond on bass and Caroline Noel Beverley on mandolin.

Sunday, October 16, 7 p.m. – Ralph Stanley II and the Clinch Mountain Boys celebrate 76 years of the Stanley Brothers

Live at the Floyd Country Store – Tickets are $25

Grammy Award-winning recording artist Ralph Stanley II, son of Ralph Stanley of the Stanley Brothers, began working professionally for his father in 1995 and has continued his band The Clinch Mountain Boys ever since. This event celebrates the 76th anniversary of the first Stanley Brothers concert.

Monday, October 17 through Monday, November 7, 6:30-8:00 p.m. – Old Southwest Virginia Style and Repertoire with Mac Traynham and Andy Buckman

Class held at the Floyd Country Store – Cost is $90 for four weeks

This is a four-week course in old-school Southwest Virginia style and repertoire with Mac Traynham and Andy Buckman. The course begins October 17 from 6:30-8 p.m. and runs weekly until November 7. The course is aimed at beginners/advanced intermediate students.

Saturday, October 22, 7 p.m. – Jeff Little Trio Live

Live at the Floyd Country Store – Tickets are $22.50

Jeff Little is an award-winning musician from the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. He is celebrated and recognized as an “Instrumental Innovator” for integrating the piano into American and Appalachian music as the primary instrument. The Jeff Little Trio also includes Steve Lewis on acoustic guitar, five-string banjo and vocals, and Luke Little on mandolin and acoustic guitar.

Saturday, October 29, 7 p.m. – Halloween Dance Party with Whitetop Mountain Band

Live at the Floyd Country Store – Tickets are $12 (tickets for Friends & Fixtures cardholders are $5-$8, available at the door)

The Whitetop Mountain Band is a family band.

Honky Tonk Thursdays

The Floyd Country Store clears the floor to dance to some of the best honky tonk and classic country music, most often brought to life by master telecaster player Redd Volkaert and his band. Live at the Floyd Country Store. Free; suggested donation of $10

Friday Night Jamboree

For over 35 years, the Friday Night Jamboree tradition has been celebrated on the Floyd Country Store stage. Energetic string orchestras play upbeat tunes for the flatfoot dance, mixed with slower numbers for the two-step. The night begins with a gospel at 6:30 p.m. and dance music begins at 7:30 p.m. and continues until 10 p.m. Tickets are available at the door starting at 4:45 p.m., $8 admission ($5 children under 12, under 6). free). Some reserved seating is available for $15 per seat (including ticket fees), and limited seating is available.

Sunday Music Jams, weekly: 1:30-3:30 p.m. Old Time Jam, 4-6 p.m. Bluegrass jam

Each week our old-school jam features rotating host bands leading tunes at a moderate speed – traditional instruments and dancers are welcome!

Our bluegrass jam spins the hosts leading the band in traditional bluegrass songs and tunes, with picks and solos going around the circle.
