Lee and his company, TLee Development, showed up at a group meeting in September to present preliminary plans for the redevelopment of the existing building and the construction of a new building at the rear of the site. A sticking point that still has not been resolved is what to do with the old Fields House – the namesake of Fields Corner – and how they will be able to move it for redevelopment and also preserve it in some way. other. Lee said, âWe have engaged with [the preservation folks] seriously and they have been very caring and caring with their time to help us think about how to achieve many of our goals.

It is part of the history of Fields Corner and is an important building. It needs a lot of work and love and it will take money that this project cannot generate to pay for it.
He added that he was following the general public’s recommendations for a new home where the building could be moved. Previously, he had discussed the demolition of the building and the preservation of the memory in the new building behind the restored post office buildings. The issue is pending at the moment, but the closure of the property and the advancement of the project as a whole have a deadline of mid-December.
TLee’s Daniela Villon-Maya said they fully intend to keep ground floor retail operations and the post office intact, but that would mean moving the loading dock as the post office uses at the back of this building. Neighbor Vivian Girard said he supports the project and hopes the historic building will not hamper the restoration and development project. He said the neighborhood prefers development over preservation.
Hiep Chu, the head of the civic association, said the association is promoting the project because it has a good history with TLee Development and is very excited about an affordable homeownership project in Fields. Corner.
âThis particular project is in a place that everyone is talking about,â he said. âOver the past 40 years there have been plans for the site, but we have never had anyone willing to do more affordable housing for the communityâ¦ We think this particular project would breathe new life into Fields Corner in terms of the number of homeownership opportunities. He also said it looks like the Fields House issue will come down to cost. âAt the meeting, we felt that the Fields House needed to be movedâ¦ because it helps to make the project viable,â he said.
Lee told the civic group that if he gets approval and closes the property on or around December 10, he will return to civil society seeking their support.
âThere may be a day in the near future when we will have to call you to be a supporter on our behalf with the city of Boston,â he said. “We hope you will be there for us.”

The popular Coco Leaf Dessert CafÃ© is considering moving a few doors up onto Fields Corner Avenue, the FCCA has learned. Now the CafÃ© is looking to find more space near its Fields Corner home and has offered to move to the Dorchester Art Project building.
