Catch the Broadway musical Little Shop of Horrors

Residents of the Sunshine Coast will soon be treated to the hit Broadway musical, Little Shop of Horrors, which hits the Sunshine Coast in April.

The cult classic about a carnivorous plant is presented as part of the Anywhere Festival.

The premise of the annual event is to bring performances to anywhere but a traditional theater space. From swimming pools and mazes to bookstores and even pub bathrooms, the festival has seen some truly unique settings for its shows and Little Shop of Horrors is no exception.

With both a Sunshine Coast season and a Brisbane season, the show is presented at the Montessori International College, Outdoors, Roundhouse and EC Venue respectively.

Co-producer Marina de Jager said, “We are thrilled to bring this incredible show to life and showcase the exceptional talent that Sunshine Coast has to offer.

“We have dancers, singers, actors, not to mention the five puppets playing Audrey II – the flesh-eating plant, so there’s a lot going on on stage.”

Award-winning director Riley Cope loved developing his craft in this reimagined production.

“It’s great to put a new spin on this classic musical as part of the Anywhere Festival.”

Telling the story of Seymor, a clumsy but lovable saleswoman who yearns for her colleague Audrey, during a total eclipse, Seymour discovers an unusual plant he names Audrey II, which feeds only on human blood and, at the Over time, Audrey II becomes more demanding and asks for human flesh.

Set in 1960s New York, the show is filled with famous stars such as Downtown, Suddenly Seymour and Somewhere That’s Green.

This quirky tale is a feast for the eyes with dazzling costumes, props and perhaps most famously – the growing puppet plant that is Audrey II.
