Apple celebrates Istanbul’s creativity with launch of special Today at Apple program and exclusive AR exhibit
ISTANBUL, TURKEY Apple today announced the opening of Apple BaÄdat Caddesi on Friday, October 22. Located in the heart of Istanbul, Apple BaÄdat Caddesi will be Apple’s third point of sale in Turkey. This two-tier destination blends local materials with the latest store design to create an open and fluid space for customers to explore Apple products and services, or participate in free Today at Apple sessions.
âWith the opening of Apple BaÄdat Caddesi, we are delighted to strengthen the deep and long-standing relationships we have with our customers in Turkey,â said Deirdre O’Brien, senior vice president of Apple Retail + People . âWe look forward to welcoming the local community to our new store in Istanbul and bringing them the best of Apple. “
To celebrate the opening, Apple will launch Perspektif Istanbul, a six-week Today at Apple program that honors the city and its creators. Hosted by 20 local artists, the series brings together creativity, culture and technology in an experience that examines topics and values ââimportant to Istanbul’s local community. Participants will have the chance to participate in in-person and virtual sessions that include learning traditional miniature drawing with illustrator Murat Palta, photographing the invisible with Magnum Photos photographer Sabiha Ãimen or creating a moving portrait with visual artist Sinan Tuncay.
The store will also host an exclusive augmented reality (AR) exhibition developed by creative technologists Tin Nguyen and Ed Cutting, and Turkish sound artist OÄuz Ãner. The experience transforms the store with an immersive digital installation and includes many other artists participating in Perspektif Istanbul. Using the latest iPad Pro and iPhone 13 Pro with LiDAR, visitors will be able to see ceramic vessels inspired by Ebru – the traditional art of marbling paper – in AR on their screens and hear unique spatial sound elements.
Apple BaÄdat Caddesi showcases design elements familiar from Apple Stores around the world and Apple Park in Cupertino, Calif., While incorporating Aksaray Yaylak granite and locally sourced Turkish travertine. Installed under a floating carbon fiber roof, the store creates an urban oasis in the heart of the city, with a large tree-lined garden.
Once inside, visitors will find the Video Wall and Forum, which houses the Today at Apple sessions. The upper level is flanked by avenues, where customers can explore Apple’s latest products and services. The entire space opens up to the outside of the store through a 32-foot glass curtain, blurring the lines between inside and outside. The interior is bathed in natural light thanks to two large skylights that open to allow ventilation.
Apple has been a part of the Turkish community for 30 years, and Apple team members BaÄdat Caddesi look forward to deepening Apple’s relationships with local customers across Turkey. Apple BaÄdat Caddesi’s diverse team of 130 people collectively speak 14 languages ââand will welcome its first visitors on Friday, October 22 at 10 a.m. local time. With the health and well-being of customers and team members being Apple’s top priority, the store will implement comprehensive health measures.
In addition, visits to Apple BaÄdat Caddesi on opening day will be by appointment only. Customers can choose from the schedules available at apple.com/tr/retail/bagdatcaddesi. Capacity will be limited, so customers may experience waiting times before entering the store.
