The description:

The Retail Director oversees all direct-to-consumer operations at Alewerks Taproom & Beer Garden and Alewerks LAB at Williamsburg Premium Outlets, including activities and events, vendors, online orders, and delivery. The Retail Manager is responsible for directing and managing reception hall managers and staff to ensure quality control and customer satisfaction. The position is part of the Alewerks leadership team and should work in harmony with other department heads to create and execute strategic direction.

Professional responsibilities:

  • Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures that increase operational efficiency and maximize long-term performance

  • Ensures all SOPs are up to date and implemented

  • Inventory

  • Service expectations

  • Customer experiences

  • Training hours

  • Help management develop systems to train, develop and improve each employee and the team as a whole at each site

  • Ensures that each institution’s vision is executed

  • Provide support to managers when dealing with employee and customer issues

  • Cultivates employee engagement and retention through frequent communication and feedback with managers

  • Weekly meetings with the managers of the taprooms room

  • Quarterly addresses to full retail staff

  • Encourages managerial autonomy and leadership and sets an example with a professional attitude and behavior

  • Provide leadership and direction to the corresponding teams to ensure the smooth functioning of the combined organization

  • Ensure that the management of each location purchases correctly and that costs are controlled

  • Provides revenue projections and programming insight on how to meet revenue goals

  • Develop a strategic plan to achieve the company’s revenue goals over 10 years

  • Works closely with the marketing team to create high quality branding and accountability of retail staff executing brand goals

  • Develop / improve retail vision, strategy and plan to drive growth and maintain profitability

  • Create an inspiring and growth-friendly environment for staff and foster a positive corporate culture; constantly reinforce the core values, vision and mission of the company.

  • Oversee the commitment of a safe, secure and healthy installation environment at each location by following and enforcing sanitation standards and procedures, and complying with health and legal regulations

  • Comply with and enforce all federal, state, departmental and municipal regulations regarding breweries and restaurants, health and safety, and personnel

  • Provide advice and suggestions to owners as needed

  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations on budget creation and management of expansion projects

  • Works with facilities and marketing teams to meet the operational needs of physical buildings, infrastructure and marketing image through cross-functional coordination

  • Fulfill leadership team commitments including: weekly meetings, trainings, cultural workshops and team building

Qualities and specifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in management or a business related field

  • 5 years of experience managing multi-location operations, preferred

  • Experience and knowledge of the craft beer industry

  • Experience in business management is a plus

  • Experience in the food and beverage industry is a plus

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong customer service and management skills

  • Knowledge of P&L, budgeting, sales targets and forecasting

  • Ability to work flexible hours required to effectively manage and operate all locations

  • Goal oriented with the ability to demonstrate Alewerks core values ​​with integrity

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with people at all levels of the business.

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 32 lbs to shoulder height and push or pull 160 lbs

  • Must be able to work standing for 8 hours or more

  • Must be able to squat, bend, lift and reach
